The story
The 80 households of Sitio Kalubihan in the mountains of Cebu fetch water from an open spring 1.5 kilometers downhill — a two-hour round trip that usually falls on mothers and children, and a source that tests positive for coliform after every heavy rain.
This project funds a gravity-fed water system designed pro bono by volunteer engineers: a spring box, 2,000 meters of HDPE pipe, a ferrocement storage tank, and six tap stands throughout the sitio. The barangay LGU has committed the maintenance fund; residents will dig the pipeline themselves.
Clean, safe water at the center of the community — for good.
